Eddie Mugavero: music

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

(Written by Eddie Mugavero & David Spear-Performed by David Spear & the Darts)
From the "Hubcap" demo session. Yet another title suggested by David. He'd say... "Hey, Eddie..write one called "Letter To The Editor".. I'd go, "Huh?"
The next day, I'd give him the song. Man, what a trip those days were. No boundaries. That's Jennie Hoeft "playing" the typewriter. Yep, she did it live too. I also suggested the 'Ringo roll' to Jennie in the chorus, and she soaked it up.

Jennie's mom one time questioned the lyric in the last verse. "If Monday, you were thumbing thru Sunday's edition, and you made plans to 'meet tonight'...wouldn't you have missed it by one day?" lol..yep..I guess I missed that small detail. I loved our audience for this fact. They got it. Nevertheless, David sang like no tomorrow, Jennie was fearless in her 'secretary' performance, and I was just proud to be onstage with this gang.
LETTER TO THE EDITOR

SHE LIVES 'CROSS THE STREET FROM ME NEWSPAPER WOMAN
SHE WORKS 80 HOURS A WEEK NOT ONE SPARE MOMENT
SHE SENDS THE PAPER OFF TO PRESS
THEN COMES HOME LATE THEN OFF TO BED
NOW I’VE GOT SUCH A CRUSH ON HER
HERE’S HOW I KEEP IN TOUCH WITH HER

I WRITE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR
HOPING SHE WOULD GET IT OR SOMEONE WOULD TELL HER
SOMEBODY OUT THERE LOVES HER THERE IN BLACK AND WHITE
I WRITE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR KNOWING WHEN SHE READ IT HER
HEART WOULD JUST MELT AND SHE’D KNOW HOW I FELT
BY MY LETTER TO THE EDITOR

HER DAILY EDITORIALS ARE SO ROMANTIC
THE WAY SHE TAKES ON CITY HALL SINGLE HANDED
SHE SHOULD WIN THE PULITZER PRIZE
I WOULD LOVE TO GAZE IN HER EYES
BUT TIL THEN I’LL KEEP ON TRYING
PRAYING SHE REPLIES TO ME

MONDAY I WAS THUMBING THRU SUNDAY’S EDITION
NOT ONE COMMENTARY BOUT A POLITICIAN
INSTEAD RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF ME WERE
ALL MY LETTERS ON PAGE 3 AND IN BOLD CAPS WAS HER REPLY
MEET ME AT MY PLACE TONITE..
