From the recording CARRY ME HOME
Liz gave me a cassette with a scat melody, and asked that I write lyrics to it. A most enjoyable cowriting session! I remember Liz coming over to hear what I've done, and me being so relieved and happy that she loved it! It's funny, but when you get a melody with no concept, you can do anything with it! I remember thinking, "What kind of song should this be..? I was on the road when I first heard it, and was weary as hell..I remember jotting down lines as I was driving.."mini shampoos'..."holiday loos".."do it for the dues" etc.....
heard here Live in Studio C on 90.3 with Kelli Cox on Piano, Dan Immel on bass, and David "Smitty" Smith on drums.
CARRY ME HOME
ROAD WEARY, I'M COLD AND ALONE
ROAD BLEARY, CONSOLIN' MY JONES
I'D PHONE TO SAY 'HELLO', BUT NO, IT'S LATE..SO I WON'T BE RINGIN'
I BEST GET SOME REST I'LL WAKE WHEN THE MAID SAYS 'LEAVE'
ANOTHER DAY...WILL HE REMEMBER ME?
ROAD WEARY OF THOSE MINI SHAMPOOS
ROAD LEERY OF HOLIDAY LOOS
I DO IT FOR THE DUES BUT BLUES DON'T KNOW NO MERCY, I'LL TELL YA!
I'M SOMEBODY'S SHOW BUT WHEN IT'S OVER
IT'S MY SWEET BABY I'M DREAMIN' OF
AND THAT'S ENOUGH TO CARRY ME HOME, SWEET HOME
ROAD WEARY NOW I JUST MISSED MY FLIGHT
ROAD TEARY HOW I MISS HIM TONIGHT
I MIGHT BE DOIN' RIGHT BY MY OWN DREAMS
BUT SOON I'LL BE SINGING
IN SOMEBODY'S EAR WHO REALLY HEARS ME
AND NEEDS HIS BABY AND A LITTLE LOVE
AND THAT'S ENOUGH TO CARRY ME HOME, SWEET HOME...
