From the recording CHRISTMAS TIME IN THE BIG CITY

These are some of my favorite lyrics. I wanted to write a Christmas song that wasn't so jolly, but rather a little "dark". When I hear this, it brings me back to 42nd St. in NYC in December.

Lyrics

CHRISTMASTIME IN THE BIG CITY

WALK, DON’T WALK GOIN’ WINDOW SHOPPIN’
SMOG FLAKES DROPPIN’ LIKE FIREFLIES
PICKPOCKETS SCHEMIN’ LITTLE KIDS DREAMIN’
CABS CAREENIN’ THRU THE ICE

IT’S CHRISTMASTIME IN THE BIG CITY
CHRISTMASTIME IN THE BIG CITY
CHRISTMASTIME IN THE BIG CITY
LOOK AT ALL THE PRETTY LIGHTS

LONELY SINGLES, DOUBLE ESPRESSOS
TRIPLE X SHOWS ON MARQUEES
A LITTLE TOO MUCH SLUSH A LITTLE TOO MUCH RUSH
TRUDGIN’ THRU THE TUNDRA LOOKIN’ FOR A TREE

REPEAT CHORUS

SALVATION ARMY BANDS ARE SWINGIN’
BLACK WHITE YELLOW SANTAS SINGIN’
CAR ALARMS AND BELLS ARE RINGIN’
CASH REGISTERS CHING CHING CHINGIN’…(CHORUS)

COPS CLIP CLOPPIN’ THE BEAT ON HORSEBACK
SUBWAY SHOPPERS HELP THEMSELVES
ROLEX WATCH FAKES GOIN’ LIKE HOTCAKES
HO HO HOS DRESSED UP LIKE ELVES..(REPEAT CHORUS)

GENDER BENDER SIDEWALK VENDORS
URCHIN MERCHANTS HAWKIN’ BUYERS
GAY APPARELERS HOMELESS CAROLERS
SINGIN’ FOR THEIR SUPPER HUDDLED ‘ROUND A FIRE
